By The Adventure Hut | Tactical & Outdoor Clothing Since 2014
The number one reason people return clothing online in India? Wrong size.
And tactical t-shirts make this even trickier — because they're cut differently from regular t-shirts. A "Large" in a basic round-neck cotton tee may feel completely different from a "Large" in a combat shirt or polo tactical tee.
This guide will help you get it right the first time.
Why Tactical Clothing Fits Differently
Regular t-shirts are cut for casual, relaxed wear. Tactical and outdoor clothing is cut with function in mind:
- Combat shirts have a closer fit at the torso to reduce snagging on gear and equipment
- Polo tactical tees often have a slightly longer back hem for coverage during physical activity
- Quick-dry performance shirts use stretch fabric that conforms to the body — they may look small on the hanger but have excellent give
- Heavy cotton camo tees follow more traditional sizing but may feel boxier depending on the cut
The bottom line: always measure yourself, not just compare to your usual size.
How to Measure Yourself Correctly
You need three measurements. All you need is a flexible measuring tape (or a string + ruler):
Chest
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it parallel to the ground. Breathe normally — don't suck in. This is your chest measurement.
Shoulder Width
Measure from the tip of one shoulder across to the tip of the other (across the back). This is often the most important measurement for shirts — if the shoulders fit, everything else can be adjusted.
Body Length
Measure from the top of your shoulder down to where you want the shirt to end (usually at the hip). This matters more for taller buyers.
Our Standard Size Guide
| Size | Chest (inches) | Shoulder (inches) | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 36–38 | 16–17 | Slim build, shorter frame |
| M | 38–40 | 17–18 | Average Indian male build |
| L | 40–42 | 18–19 | Athletic / broader chest |
| XL | 42–44 | 19–20 | Broader shoulders, heavier build |
| XXL | 44–46 | 20–21 | Larger frame |
Note: Sizes can vary slightly between products depending on the cut and fabric. When in doubt between two sizes, go one size up — especially for cotton t-shirts that may have a slightly snug fit.
Size Recommendations by Product Type
Heavy Cotton Camo T-Shirts (Yodha Print, ADV-BGK, Brown Camo)
These are cut with a regular/straight fit. They're not slim-fit. Most buyers find their true size works well here. If you prefer a relaxed fit, go one size up.
Best fit tip: Match your chest measurement. Shoulders are cut generously.
Tactical Combat Shirts (6-Pocket Half-Zip, Quarter-Zip)
These have a semi-fitted cut — closer to the torso than a regular tee. If you're between sizes, go one size up.
Best fit tip: Check shoulder width first. If shoulders fit, the torso follows.
Quick-Dry Dry Cool T-Shirts (Paratrooper, Airborne, Grey Basic)
These are athletic fit with stretch fabric. They're meant to sit closer to the body. They look small on the hanger but have significant stretch.
Best fit tip: True to size for most buyers. If you dislike close-fitting shirts, go one up.
Polo Tactical T-Shirts (Olive Green Polo, URI Polo, Tactical Black Polo)
These follow standard polo sizing. The collar and hem length tend to be slightly longer than casual polos.
Best fit tip: Match your chest measurement. These work well across body types.
Lycra / Stretch T-Shirts (Light Olive Green Lycra)
These are body-hugging stretch fit by design. They're meant to fit close. If you prefer a loose fit, go one full size up.
Best fit tip: Go by chest measurement. The stretch accommodates a range within each size.
Special Cases: Tall Buyers, Broad Shoulders, or Larger Builds
Tall buyers (5'11" and above): Pay attention to body length. Our shirts fit standard Indian height ranges well, but very tall buyers may find the length shorter than expected. Try the combat shirts — their longer cut works better for taller frames.
Broad shoulders: Shoulder width is your priority measurement. If your shoulders are at the upper end of a size range, go up.
Heavier/larger builds: Don't go purely by chest measurement if you have a broader back — add an inch to your chest measurement and size up accordingly.
Still Not Sure? Here's What to Do

- Check the product page — several of our listings include a size chart image
- When genuinely unsure, go one size up — a slightly larger tactical shirt looks better and is easier to wear than one that's too tight
