Heading out for your first camping trip? Before you hit the trail, make sure you've got the basics covered. Here are the 10 things every beginner camper needs.
A Good Backpack
Everything starts here. A 40–60L hiking bag gives you enough space without weighing you down. Look for padded straps and a hip belt.
Sleeping Bag
Pick one rated for the temperature of your campsite. Indian nights in the hills get colder than you expect — don't cheap out on this one.
Tent
A lightweight 2-person tent works even if you're camping solo. Easy to pitch, easy to carry.
Trekking Boots
Your feet take the most punishment on any trip. A pair of ankle-support boots prevents sprains and keeps you going longer.
Headlamp
Hands-free lighting is non-negotiable at camp. Carry extra batteries.
Water Bottle / Hydration System
Minimum 1.5 litres. An insulated bottle keeps water cool on hot treks. Hydration bladders are great for long hikes.
Multi-Tool or Knife
One compact tool handles rope cutting, food prep, gear repairs, and more. A must-have in any kit.
First Aid Kit
Bandages, antiseptic, pain relief, and blister pads. Keep it small, keep it stocked.
Tactical or Quick-Dry Clothing
Cotton kills on trails — it holds sweat and chafes. Wear moisture-wicking, quick-dry fabrics that handle weather changes.
Fire Starter / Lighter
Always carry two ignition sources. Matches, a lighter, or a flint striker — campfires and emergency warmth depend on it.
